Hello World: The Ethical Cloud
Welcome! This is my first blog post.
While it’s never been my bread and butter, I’ve done enough coding in my life to appreciate how ridiculously easy it was to make this particular “Hello World” appear on the interwebs.
Welcome to the Momvironmentalist, a home for parents raising children in the 21st century, which will probably appeal to parents who suffer from a similar variety of eco-anxiety to myself.
Want kids. Check.
Have kids. Check.
Feel like most mom-fluencers are either completely blind or just willfully wearing a blindfold of capitalism (yes, this is that kind of blog) to the environmental impact of their lifestyle choices. Check.
But feel like most de-influencers/environmental advocates online are missing something when it comes to speaking to the 33.8% of US households (https://www.census.gov), 28% of French households (https://www.insee.fr), or 29% of Swiss households (https://www.profamilia.ch) with children. Check.
And maybe feel a little bit awkwardly guilty not guilty when talking environment and eco actions with those friends who have chosen not to have kids. This one is facultative.
So now you know why I started this blog. That in itself is a doozy. With all the talk of the wastefulness of creating dumb images with AI and storing every picture we’ve ever taken or junk email we’ve ever sent in the cloud (all negligible next to eating meat; you may be able to guess some of the directions I’ll be diving), I hesitated about adding to the junk hosted out there.
But 1. this isn’t junk, this is a community I need. And maybe so do you.
And 2. Hosting with Infomaniak really is choosing the ethical cloud, where employees hold the capital and the heat generated by their data center in Geneva (local to me) is now 100% recycled to heat homes in the canton (https://www.euronews.com). Now that’s what I call a market leader.
We need to use technology. We need to use technology smarter. And probably less.
